Family: Anatidae
Diet: Herbivorous , feeding principally on aquatic plants but occasionally takes molluscs and cultivated cereals.
Reproduction: Pairs for life at 4 to 5years. Mating and egg laying occurs between May and June. The 4-6 eggs are incubated by the female for 33-37 days. The young fledge after 60-70 days.
Longevity: Up to 20 years in the wild and in captivity.
Predators: Eggs and/or young may be taken by gray wolves, foxes, bears, golden eagles, skuas and gulls.
Status: Not at risk, however, hunting is prohibited.
