Family: Anatidae                                          Blue : wintering grounds

Diet: Herbivorous, feeding on rhizomes of aquatic and semi-aquatic plants, grasses and cultivated cereals.

Reproduction: Sexually mature at 3 years . Mating and egg laying occur in June. The 4-5 eggs are incubated by the female for 23-25 days. The young fledge after 38-49 days.

Longevity: Up to 27 years in the wild and 32 years in captivity.

Predators: Eggs and/or young may be taken by Arctic foxes, skuas, gulls, buzzards, gyrfalcons and snow owls.

Status: Not at risk.
