Diet : Carnivorous , feeding on small mammals and birds, snakes, insects and earth worms.
Reproduction : Sexually mature at two years. In Québec, mating and egg laying occurs between April and July . The 2-4 eggs are incubated by both the male and the female for 30 days. The young fledge after 45 days.
Longevity : Up to 16 years in the wild and 29 years in captivity.
Predators : Eggs and/or young may be taken by raccoons, common ravens, American crows and jays.
Status : Population stable, not at risk. |
