Family: Castoridae

Diet: Herbivorous , feeding principally on leaves, bark and hardwood twigs, including aspen.

Reproduction: Sexually mature at 2 years. Mating occurs between January and February. The 3-4 young are born between May and June after a gestation period of 14-15 weeks, and are weaned after 10 weeks.

Longevity: Up to 12 years in the wild and about 20 years in captivity.

Predators: Gray wolves, Canadian lynx, bobcats, bears, coyotes, fishers, wolverines, and river otters.

Status: Common, not at risk.
