Order: Carnivora

Family: Felidae

Diet: Carnivorous , generally feeding on small mammals such as the snowshoe hare, but occasionally takes young deer.

Reproduction: Sexually mature at 10 to 18 months. Mating occurs between February and March. The 3-4 cubs are born between late March and mid-May after a gestation period of 50-70 days, and are weaned after 2 months.

Longevity: Up to 10 years in the wild and 25 years in captivity.

Predators: Pumas, gray wolves and coyotes; young may also be taken by great horned owls and red foxes.

Status: Declining, the Québec population is  in danger of being classified as threatened or vulnerable.
