Family: Erethizontidae

Diets: Herbivorous , feeding on bark, sapwood, leaves, shoots and various plants .

Reproduction: In Quebec, sexually mature at 1 year. Mating occurs between October and December. A single  baby is born between mid-May and July after a gestation period of 7 months, and  isweaned after 2-14 weeks.

Longevity: Up to 11 years in the wild and in captivity.

Predators: Fisher, wolverines, Canadian lynx, bobcats, coyotes, pumas, gray wolves and certain birds of prey.

Status: Common, not at risk.
