Family: Canidae
Diet: Carnivorous , feeding principally on small mammals, carrion, birds, frogs, insects, but also eats berries.
Reproduction: Sexually mature at 10 months. Mating occurs between December and March. The 4-7 cubs are born between March and May after a gestation period of 2 months, and are weaned after 4-5 weeks.
Longevity: Up to 10 years in the wild and 14 years in captivity.
Predators: Canadian lynx, bobcats, coyotes, wolverines, gray wolves and black bears.
Status: Abundant, not at risk.
