Diet: Herbivorous , feeding on grasses, forbs and shrubs including Artemesia spp.
Reproduction: The female is sexually mature at 15 to 17 months and the male at 2 years. Mating occurs between September and October. The 1-3 fawns are born between May and June after a gestation period of 8 months, and are weaned after 5-6 months.
Longevity: Up to 15 years in the wild.
Predators: Bobcats, gray wolves and golden eagles.
Status: Special concern. After an alarming population crash in the early 1920s due to habitat loss, conservation measures have brought about a marked increase in numbers. |
